Fidelity Investments Data Breach Settlement
Fidelity agreed to settle a lawsuit over a 2024 data security incident that may have exposed customers' financial account and routing numbers. People who got a breach notice from Fidelity may want to check whether they may qualify for a cash payment and free credit monitoring. Final court approval is still pending.
What happened
A third party accessed Fidelity's network without authorization between August 17–19, 2024. The case, In re: Fidelity Investments Data Breach Litigation, No. 1:24-CV-12601-LTS (D. Mass.), settled for $2.5 million. The court granted preliminary approval; a final approval hearing is scheduled for July 9, 2026. Fidelity has not admitted wrongdoing.
Who may be affected
People who received written notice from Fidelity about the August 2024 incident, or whose financial account/routing number was exposed, may want to locate the login ID and PIN from that notice on the official site.
The official site lists a base cash payment of about $100 for all class members (an additional $50 for California residents), and up to $5,000 for documented losses.
